Who We Are

REALSAN is a Network of Local Authorities and Actors for Food and Nutrition Security, set up in 2010 thanks to the project “The role of local authorities in building a common work agenda for North-South food and nutrition security: inputs from Europe and Central America”.

REALSAN Network activities carry on with the project “EXPO 2015 for food and nutritional security of local communities: implementation of an action plan shared between Lombardy and Central America”, co-funded by the Municipality of Milan.

The project has as its leader AIAB  – Italian Organization for Organic Agriculture – and as partners BrianzAcque, Amsa – Azienda Milanese Servizi Ambientali, CEM Ambiente, Ambito Territoriale Ottimale Provincia di Monza e Brianza – ATO MB, ACRA-CCS, Municipality of Milan, Agenda 21 Est Ticino, FIRAB, Municipality of Marcala (Honduras), Municipality of Perquin (El Salvador), PRESANCA II (Regional Programme for Food Security and Nutrition for Central America), Via Campesina Central America. The distinguishing feature of REALSAN is that its partners come from different worlds, thus guaranteeing an integrated, proactive, multi-sector approach to the FNS issue.

The project has many objectives: starting with capitalisation of experiences already in place in Central America, thanks to the PRESANCA, Regional Programme for Food Security and Nutrition for Central America, the intention is to:

  • promote spreading of the Central American good practices in Europe
  • encourage exchanges between members in the areas involved (Italy, Spain and Central America)
  • carry out training for local authorities and actors
  • inform the civil society about FNS
